History

Bernard Tronche opened Saint-Emilion in 1985 – nearly six years to the day after moving from the Bordeaux area of France to Texas. He never really intended to stay but life is like that and here he is – 30 years later.

Bernard’s first stop was Dallas in 1979 where he worked at the city’s top French restaurant as a waiter and later, a manager. But always, he was watching the chef in the kitchen. Like many French people, Bernard grew up with an appreciation of good food and wine. He discovered he loved to cook and after waiting on tables, he would go home and recreate many of the dishes he knew and loved. He saw an opportunity to open his own restaurant in Fort Worth where fine dining restaurants were few and far between.

Saint-Emilion has been in the same location since opening in March 1985 – two miles west of downtown in the Cultural District, just a couple of blocks from the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. And Bernard is still moving from the front door to the dining room to the kitchen, trying to ensure everyone has a perfect dining experience.
